Silvia Wiesmann completed a Masters degree in Somatic Psychology in Boulder, Colorado,1989.
She regularly offers private MBSR courses and MBSR-workplace healthcare promotion for businesses (University Hospital of
Bern, LogisPlus) and also teaches courses for cancer patients sponsored by the Cancer Foundation of Bern. Silvia has been teaching mindfulness based stress reduction/MBSR for many years
and is also Co-Director and trainer for MBSR teachers at the European Center for
Mindfulness in Freiburg in Breisgau, where she has been involved since 2008 in training MBSR teachers .
Additionally, she worked as a Somatic Psychologist from 2003-2013 in a non-residential program for eating disorders and
obesity treatment at the University Hospital Insel, Bern, having developed, implemented and taught mindful eating groups with obese patients. She is co-author
of: Essstörungen und Adipositas: Akzeptanz verkörpern, 2013, Huber Verlag as well as several articles in various professional journals.
An integral part of her life (and training) has been her experience in Hospice Care. She
began as a registered nurse in Denver, USA, continued at the Hospice at Home Care in California and finally served as a resident manager of the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco. In 1997, Silvia founded the
Hospice of Bern, Switzerland and continued as Director until 2000.
Silvia regularly gives lectures on Mindfulness, Hospice Care and Somatic Psychology nationally and internationally. Furthermore, she is also involved in education programs for healthcare professionals and holds workshops on clinical applications of Mindfulness and Somatic Psychology. Silvia is a certified member of the MBSR-Verband Switzerland and has the EMR-Quality label.

The Stress Reduction Program, founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979
This program has drawn attention from various national and international print media, and is the subject of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s best selling book, Full Catastrophe
Living.
Since its inception, many tens of thousands people have completed the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program and learned how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain, and illness.
